森林は、エネルギー・木材資源としての側面だけではなく、国土保全・生態系サービス等も含む様々な機能を有しており、森林資源の利用と管理の在り方は地域の重要な問題です。これらの問題解決には、正確かつ詳細な森林情報が不可欠です。近年、航空機やドローンなどに搭載された先端計測機器により膨大な3次元情報を取得する技術が実用化されています。これらの技術を利用し、広大な森林の詳細情報を迅速に把握するシステムの開発や、得られる情報をもとに将来の森林域の姿を予測する手法の開発をとおして、森林資源の持続的な利用計画やその評価手法について研究しています。

（英文概要）

Forests have various functions including not only energy and timber resources but also national land conservation and ecosystem services. Therefore, how to utilize and manage the forest resources is an important regional issues. Accurate and detailed forest information is essential for solving these issues. In recent years, the technology for acquiring enormous three-dimensional information has been put to practical use with advanced measurement equipment mounted on airborne and drones. By developing the system for quickly grasping detailed information on vast forests and the method for predicting the future appearance of forest areas based on the enormous three-dimensional information within the forests, we investigated the sustainable forest management plans and its evaluation method.
